Course Description: This class will teach how to sculpt the human head using the anatomy of the skull, planes of the face, proportion lines and attitude to achieve a life-like representation. Students will learn step-by-step method to create the human head out of water based clay, using large story board photos as a model; use mine or bring your own photos of a friend/family member as your subject. Each student will receive an instructional booklet, outlining every step of the project from beginning to end. All levels of ability from beginner to advanced can participate in this class. An armature and turntable will be provided to build project on. Material & tools required: all tools will be provided; 1-25# bag of clay will be included in the class cost; bring rags & large plastic bag to cover up piece between classes. First week of class will be held Wednesday, 7/5 & Friday, 7/7 in recognition of Independence Day on 7/4. Subsequent classes will be Tuesday & Thursday through 7/20/17.

Course Instructor: Bernie Arum is a sculptor, using water base clay as his medium; graduated from FIT in New York with a degree in the arts. After retiring from the business world, went back to school to learn the discipline of sculpting and have been at it for the past eleven years. Worked in the sculpture department at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA for three years, before relocating to Arizona. Teaches sculpting classes at many of the active adult communities in the Phoenix area, as well as the WHAM Art Association & the USU Summer Citizens Program in Logan, Utah.
