Course Description: In May of 2010, the blowout of the Deepwater Horizon well in the Gulf of Mexico caused the worst oil spill in history. It raised many questions such as: just how are wells drilled in deep water? What are the potential hazards that exist in drilling in that depth? What went wrong with the Deepwater Horizon well specifically? What can be done to prevent future similar disasters? In this highly illustrated presentation, Miller will take the class through the step-by-step process involved in drilling a deepwater well and offer some comments on how to prevent another uncontrolled blowout.

Course Instructor: Gerry Miller began his interest in western lawmen when he moved to Dodge City, KS sixty years ago. Since his retirement and move to Arizona in 2000, he has extensively researched and lectured on those lawmen little known by the public but who were instrumental in shaping law and order in the west in general, and Arizona in particular. Miller's interest in law enforcement extended to his serving nine years in the San Diego Police Departments Reserve Police Unit. Miller also performs a one-man stage show enacting one of Arizona's sheriffs, John Slaughter.
