Course Description: Ever wonder why people use social media platforms like Facebook? Or, why millennials communicate differently? Then this is the class for you. We’ll outline the history of communication for different generations, providing insight for why generations use different forms of communication and why one is not necessarily better. We’ll discuss best uses of social media, especially if you want to communicate with “digital natives”. We’ll cover the basics of setting up social media accounts and what platforms suit your needs. If you choose, you can set up a Facebook account and learn the basics.

Course Instructor: Preston Parker earned a degree in Business Management at USU (Bachelor), Mass Communication at Indiana University (Master), and Instructional Technology at USU (Doctorate). He’s taught courses in social media and professional communication. He’s founded two non-profit organizations and several companies specializing in multimedia production and instructional design. He enjoys using social media in the “real world” and bringing his experiences to the classroom. But really, he just wants to be known as a good husband to his wife of 18 years, and a good father to his six children.
