Course Description: David Eccles, an illiterate Scottish boy with an uncanny drive, was an early Logan Pioneer who made a fortune. He started many successful companies, giving employment to thousands of people. He built the West. He died suddenly in 1912, and his son, Marriner Eccles, managed the family's business interests. Because of Marriner's banking leadership during the Great Depression, Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt recognized his talent, and brought him into his administration as Chairman of the Federal Reserve. He held this job for 17 years. We'll learn why the Eccles family can be so generous today. Other important Loganites covered in this class will be Charles Nibley and the Thatcher family. We will take a field trip to see their beautiful homes on Friday.

Course Instructor: Lucille Hansen has lived in Cache Valley for many years and loves it. She is amazed at the intelligent people who chose to live here and run their nationwide, sometimes worldwide businesses. They thrive. Join with her as we get acquainted with some of the CEO's and learn how they overcame hardships and thrive.
