Course Description: Approximately 48 million Americans report some degree of hearing loss. In this class we'll talk about the different types and importance of communication and how hearing loss affects your ability to communicate and thereby influences your overall health. We'll discuss the causes and challenges of hearing loss and offer several strategies to assist when there are communication breakdowns. We'll also talk about hearing aids; what is currently available; how they work, how to choose one that will work for you; and how to handle the challenges people experience when wearing them. We'll also focus on tinnitus; current research on the causes as well as strategies to deal with the ringing. Improving your ability to communicate will enhance and improve your social and personal relationships.

Course Instructor: Dr. Tiffany Shelton is an Associate Clinical Professor & Clinical Director at USU. She earned her BA & MS degrees in Speech & Hearing Sciences from USU & her Doctorate from A.T. Still University. With over 28 years of experience, Dr. Shelton has provided audiology care to patients of all ages in university, medical, & private practice settings. Her professional expertise includes hearing & balance diagnostics, amplification, auditory processing, tinnitus management, & patient counseling. She is committed to advancing clinical education & delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care.
