Course Description: Early First Ladies starts with the first First Lady, Martha Washington. Information of many succeeding First Ladies in chronological order provides details of their lives and families, their highlights and tragedies and how they performed in the developing role of First Lady.
Course Instructor: Joan Elder has taught classes in the Summer Citizen program at USU for more than 10 years. Her career prior to retirement was as a public school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She taught elementary school and middle school and conducted workshops for teachers. After retiring Joan was a consultant for Create-A-Vision doing math workshops for teachers throughout the US. Joan has also taught classes for the ILR in her home community of SaddleBrooke and neighboring Sun City in Oro Valley
